I am leaving May 12th around 6pm(ish) and flying to London, have around an 8 hour layover (so I'm gonna leave the airport with someone that is traveling with me up half way and tour parts of London I didn't get to see two years ago), then flying from London to Nairobi Kenya, from there flying to MALAWI!
So..Kathy (my main contact over in Malawi, and the lady who opened the children of blessing trust) sent me an email telling me exactly what I'll be doing... here it is:
(I copied and paste this)
Kathryn (spec ed.teacher who is going to be driving me to and from the center) gets to the programme at around 830. We work until 330 or 4. On Mon Wed and Fri we tend to work straight through as the volunteers want to get home in the light. On Tues and Thurs they are at the centre the whole day and tend to have a lunch break. Mon and Wed afternoons we do home visits and Fri afternoon we go to the Crisis Nursery.
***The crisis nursery is all for babies up to and around 6 months old. They are all very malnourished, and all orphans/waiting for biological family situations to work out** I went here two years ago, and sobbed that night. This place broke my heart
You will be helping with the kids. I will tour you around the first day and show you all the MON WED FRI programmes and you can choose which of the areas you want to concentrate on. Tues Thurs programmes are different as we are working with the kids with behaviour challenges and have a smaller group setting. Kat will introduce you to the programmes that day.
Then you will be set to write up your own programme working with the kids you feel most comfy with.
For me, to make a program for kids, fills me with SOOOO much joy! Seeing as they are giving me so much responsibility and seeing that I will be doing things that I learnt in school makes me so happy. Feels like I have such a purpose, that I WILL be a blessing. AH!
That's it for today....there will be updates soon! I think it's like 50 days until I leave...oh my oh my!
This is so exciting and awesome, Mel! I know you will do so much good over there ... may God bless you on your adventures!! Keep serving the Lord with all your heart!
